The Goddess Portraits

T his series is an exploration of the nature of "the self".
Borne out of the concept that each individual is the physical embodiment of a divine universal force, it now stands as an affirmation of the strength of the human spirit.
In various spiritual teachings throughout the world, humankind is considered a reflection of a Divine Force. It has been said that man was created in the image of God, and in some ancient philosophical systems it has been expressed as a connection between our physical selves and a "Higher Self" which is one with the Infinite. In order to best represent this concept, each painting began as a portrait of a real woman, and throughout the creative process emerged a diety, inspired by their individual traits and personalities and superimposed onto various Goddess mythologies.
